Lt. Gov. Nungesser Is Calling All Louisiana High School Students for the LSPMB Design Competition!


High school students from across Louisiana encouraged to design new Louisiana Seafood logo

NEW ORLEANS – Oct. 9, 2017 – Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board (LSPMB) in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education today announced the search for a new logo and brand for the Louisiana Seafood program.

The student design competition encourages all high school-aged students across the state to use their creativity, innovation and love for Louisiana’s seafood to design and submit a new logo for the program, incorporating the healthy and delicious crab, crawfish, fish, shrimp, oysters and alligator that comes from the state’s waters. “Seafood is at the heart of so many of our favorite traditions, memories and dishes here in Louisiana,” said Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser. “I challenge students from every corner of the state to think about what they love most about Louisiana seafood and submit a logo design that visually demonstrates what we love in Louisiana – fish, cook and eat.”

In 1984, the State of Louisiana created the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board to support Louisiana’s world-class commercial fisheries industry and respond to changes in the marketplace and in the environment. The Board is composed of members appointed by the lieutenant governor representing all of the different sectors of the industry.

“The Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board’s logo design competition presents an exciting opportunity for students across the state,” said State Superintendent of Education John White. “Not only will the competition challenge them to think creatively about the intersection of art and culture, but it also allows them to give back to their home state in a unique way. I encourage schools to promote the competition to their students, and I look forward to viewing the artwork submitted by our talented young people.”

We know and everyone that tastes our fresh seafood knows we have the best flavor. I am excited to see what the young people of our state create to represent such a vital industry to Louisiana’s economy, communities and families,” said Chalin Dalaune, Chairman, Crab Task Force, Louisiana Seafood Board.

Contest Details

Submissions will be accepted from Monday, Oct. 9 – Friday, Dec. 15, 2017
Contest is open to all high school-aged students throughout Louisiana (ages 14-18)
All entries must be accompanied by a short essay (150-250 words), in response to the following questions:

What do you love about Louisiana seafood?
What inspired the design of this logo?
What is your favorite way to enjoy Louisiana seafood?

Logo should reflect the mission of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board and represent all Louisiana seafood species (shrimp, blue crab, oysters, crawfish, fish and alligator).

All entries must be submitted via email to by Friday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. Both hand-drawn and digitally-designed entries will be accepted. All logo entries must be submitted as an .EPS or .PNG file, or as a scanned .PDF file for drawings by hand. Each entry should be designed with horizontal orientation. Accompanied essays must be submitted as a .DOC file and must include the author’s name, age, city and school.

Upon submission, all logo designs and essay entries become property of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, and may be used on our website and for other advertising and marketing purposes.

The winner will receive a framed print of the logo in its final form, be invited to the official logo unveiling event, and the winner’s class will receive a catered crawfish boil to be held tentatively in April 2018.
