THE WHITE BOOT BRIGADE IS COMING TO A VENUE NEAR YOU!

Commercial fishers from Terrebonne, Lafourche and St. Bernard Parishes will be offering up their fresh, wild caught Louisiana shrimp, squid, flounder and crabs at venues around Louisiana as part of the White Boot Brigade, a traveling shrimp market.

On Saturday, August 21st the White Boot Brigade will be at the Red Stick Farmer's Market in Baton Rouge. They will travel to Rouse's Grocery Store in Covington on September 11th, to the 9th Ward neighborhood in New Orleans on September 25th, and to Rouse's Grocery Store in Metairie (at 5245 Veterans Boulevard) on October 2nd. The shrimpers will be at all of these locations from 8am to 12 noon, so don't forget your ice chest!

The Loyola University-based ECOnomics Institute's Crescent City Farmers Market program formed a collaborative partnership with Southern Mutual Help Association, Inc. (SMHA) and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board to deliver an innovative approach to direct marketing with the White Boot Brigade.

The first-ever White Boot Brigade took place in June at the Bywater Art Market in New Orleans. Over a thousand eager consumers bought more than 2,000 pounds of fresh, Louisiana seafood.

The White Boot Brigade creates long term linkages between commercial fishers and consumers, providing consistent niche market opportunities for fishers. Sister Helen Vinton, SMHA's Life Quality Director, explains that commercial fishers are a treasure, their rich culture and heritage defining coastal Louisiana for generations. The White Boot Brigade creates an arena for consumers to learn about the importance of supporting Louisiana based, family owned businesses while accessing beautiful, high quality, wild caught shrimp and other seafood.
